Sedona is one of the most magical places in the country to say “I do.” Red rock cathedrals, glowing sunsets, and scenery that honestly doesn’t need a filter. The best part? It's free as long as you follow very specific laws set by the National Forest Service.

If you’re dreaming of an easy, beautiful elopement or micro wedding, these locations are some of Sedona’s most loved and some of the most realistic when it comes to access, guests, and logistics.

Before we dive in, there are two important things every Sedona couple should know...

*A quick (but important) note about Sedona elopements

Many of Sedona’s iconic spots are on public land and some fall within or near federally designated Wilderness areas. Because of the Wilderness Act of 1964, commercial activity is heavily restricted in these areas. That means paid wedding services—like photographers, officiants, planners, or coordinators—can require special permits or may not be allowed in certain locations at all.

This is exactly why hiring local wedding professionals who understand Sedona’s rules and boundaries matters so much. A good Sedona-based planner or photographer will:

  • Help you choose a location that fits your vision and is legally viable

  • Know where permits are required (and where they aren’t)

  • Protect you from accidentally planning a ceremony that isn’t allowed

Translation: less stress, no awkward run-ins with rangers, and a smoother wedding day!

Guest count & bathroom rule (keep this handy)

This applies to every location below:

  • Under 25 guests: Bathrooms are not required

  • 25–75 guests: Bathrooms are required

  • Over 75 guests: A permit from the National Forest Service is required

If a location doesn’t have restrooms nearby, it’s best suited for true elopements or very small groups.

If you are planning a wedding for over 30 guests, a wedding venue is very highly encouraged. If you are planning a wedding for over 75 guests, a wedding venue will almost certainly be necessary.

Why hiring local Sedona vendors makes everything easier

Sedona elopements are beautiful but they’re not “DIY friendly” in the way they might appear online.

A local planner, coordinator, photographer, or officiant local to Sedona will:

  • Guide you to locations that fit your guest count and vision

  • Help navigate permits, Wilderness boundaries, and land-use rules

  • Build a timeline that works with lighting, crowds, and access

  • Protect the land through Leave No Trace practices

Think of them as your shortcut to a stress-free, legally sound, wildly beautiful wedding day.
